A year of unstoppable momentum and unwavering support
As we close out 2024, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has been part of our journey. In our sixth year, the Para Rowing Foundation (PRF) continues to break barriers and propel para rowers to new heights. This year, we proudly supported 25 rowers across 12 nations, reaffirming our global commitment to the growth and success of para rowing. It has truly been an exceptional 12 months.
Since our founding in 2018, PRF has made incredible strides:
Empowering over 200 international athletes, including many preparing for the Paris 2024 Paralympics.
Delivering holistic, world-class training through four intensive residential programs in Portugal (2018-2024) and the USA (2019, 2023), totaling 3,700+ hours of coaching in collaboration with 58 dedicated coaches from 26 countries across 6 continents.
Offering over 80 hours of pro-sports psychology to 15 athletes, ensuring their mental resilience matches their physical strength.
Innovating with cutting-edge equipment designs, from custom para seats to adaptive oars, making rowing more inclusive and accessible.
Standing as a trusted advocate for para rowers everywhere, amplifying their voices and championing their rights.
A year of dedication in a Paralympic year
Funding for athletes:
With the Paralympics in August and the Head of the Charles Regatta (HOCR) in October, we worked tirelessly to ensure 12 para rowers received the resources they needed to excel. Through the PRF Travel & Equipment Grant, we supported 7 athletes from 6 nations at the Paralympics and 5 Paralympians at HOCR.
Loan closet & equipment innovation:
We are thrilled to provide athletes with the opportunity to test rowing equipment to ensure it meets their needs and utilize it throughout their seasons. From seat kits to adaptive equipment, our loan closet continues to be a vital resource for athletes, ensuring they’re equipped for success.
Innovation and design:
Over the past year, we are excited to have joined forces with award winning product designer Benn Klewpatinond from INOND Product Realisation to develop a unique fixed seat for PR1 and PR2 rowers.
A year of dedication in a Paralympic year
Fundraising milestones:
In September, a spirited team of 4 rowers banded together to raise critical funds for PRF by indoor-rowing for 24 hours non-stop, demonstrating the power of community and determination.
Expanding leadership:
PRF welcomed two key Board Members, extending our influence and reach to Australasia and Europe:
‘Intensive Training’ program:
For the sixth year, our Intensive Training week in Portugal successfully brought together 7 para rowers and 6 para coaches. Enjoy the video. You will see the camaraderie amongst the athletes, coaches and PRF
In December, we had a record number of athlete applications to join the Intensive Training in 2025, hitting more than 40 applications from 20 countries. This was an increase of nearly 150% on 2024 applications, demonstrating a clear and growing need for training. Looking to the future, we are considering extending our Intensive Training residential to other regions globally.
Global reach:
In 2024, PRF’s presence flourished through direct involvement at the Paralympics and HOCR by continuing to extend our network. We have grown impact on social and traditional media platforms - increasing our Instagram following by more than 50% over the past 18 months and growing day by day.
Looking Ahead: A vision for growth, connection, and opportunity
As PRF turns the page to 2025, our vision remains steadfast: to expand the global reach of para rowing, open new doors of opportunity, and provide greater access for athletes to thrive.
Fueling dreams: expanding horizons
Our mission is to break down barriers and bring para rowing to more athletes than ever before. The more funds we are able to raise globally will inevitably provide greater accessibility to cutting-edge equipment, expand our intensive training programme and support more athletes as they reach for new heights.
