PRESS RELEASE

PRF AWARDS SEVEN PARALYMPICS ATHLETES TRAVEL AND EQUIPMENT GRANT

16 AUGUST 2024: Para Rowing Foundation (PRF), the first of is kind athlete-centred non-profit organisation with a mission to empower para rowers worldwide to reach their full potential, today announces that it has awarded seven grantees from six different nations its ‘2024 Paralympic Athlete Travel & Equipment Grant’.

The award of up to $1,000 per grant is designed to assist individual athletes who need additional financial assistance to travel to, or buy essential equipment for, their upcoming competition at the Paralympic Games commencing 28 August 2024 in Paris, France.

“PRF helps to remove barriers enabling athletes to focus on training and performance. Cash grants are just one of the ways we can support  them to achieve this,” says Steven Dowd, Executive Chair of PFR.

Seven grantees across three para rowing classifications from six different nations include:

  • Ángeles Britani Gutiérrez Vieyra, Mexico, PR3 Mix2x

  • Ebba Einarsson, Sweden, PR1 W1x

  • Maher Rahmani, Turkey, PR1 M1x

  • Miguel Ángel Nieto Carpio, Mexico, PR3 Mix2x

  • Narayana Konganapalle, India, PR3 Mix2x

  • Roman Polianskyi, Ukraine, PR1 M1x

  • Tiarnán O’Donnell, Ireland, PR2 Mix2x

“Securing adequate funding can be a serious distraction from focusing on training. It is our  pleasure to support seven athletes, representing six countries across all three para rowing classifications, as they prepare for the Paralympics 2024. We wish all competitors the best of  luck and fast water, and we will be there in Paris cheering them on”, says Dowd.

The applications received for this grant, the second of its kind offered by PRF, represented an increase of >300% underlining the need for such support. Each request was considered by the PRF Board and the selected Grantees represent athletes from both sexes, multiple ethnicities, across various  nations. In addition, each has different experience levels from a defending Paralympic Champion to the first para rower to represent their country at an Olympiad.
